441,559. Discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Patent Treuhand- Ges. f³r Elektrische Gl³hlampen; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin) July 27, 1934, No. 21998. [Class 39 (i)] [See also Group XI] In the manufacture of a discharge device having a vitreous envelope, more particularly an envelope a of an easily worked glass which is flashed internally with a glass b adapted to resist the action of the electric discharge, the sealing of the leading-in wires and attachment of an exhausting or pumping tube is performed in the following stages in the order given : (1) A circular open end of the envelope is formed into a tube c, Fig. 3, having an oval cross-section, (2) the ends c<1>, c<2> of the oval section are compressed so that leading-in wires e, f, Fig. 5, placed within these ends are embedded therein, but the middle portion c<3> of the oval section is left uncompressed, (3) a butt-joint is formed between the end of an exhausting-tube i and the central part h of the pinch, so that it prolongs the channel g. The tube i is sealed off after the vessel has been evacuated. Specification 147,831, [Class 39 (ii)], is referred to.
