Abstract

477,708. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., (Patent-Treuhand-Ges. fur Elektrische Gl³hlampen) Aug. 13, 1936, Nos. 22329/36, 31065/36, and 1596/37. [Class 39 (i)] A negative glow discharge lamp comprises a metal electrode forming part of the envelope, a glass window forming another part of the envelope and produced by sealing off the pump tube and a stabilizing impedance enclosed within the metal electrode or within an insulating body which surrounds a substantial part of the electrode. A resistor 9, Fig. 1 (22329/36), is housed within an electrode 1 provided with a window 5 and a constriction sealed by a glass bead 7. A wire anode 6 passes through the bead and forms a spiral lead to one end of the resistor 9 spaced from the electrode by cement 12. The two openings in the lamp may be sealed at the same time. In another form, an insulator 26, Fig. 1, (31065/36), houses the lamp 1 and the resistor 9 which may be connected together before insertion in the insulator. Apertures 27 facilitate adjustment of the lamp. Other forms are described and shown in which the resistor is parallel or perpendicular to the axis of the lamp, and in which the resistor is pressed into electrical contact with the side of the lamp or with a leading-in wire.
