Abstract

490,385. Discharge apparatus. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., and LE ROSSIGNOL, R. Feb. 15, 1937, No. 4448. [Class 39 (i)] In demountable discharge devices, particularly heavy duty thermionic valves, a valve comprising solid abutment surfaces is incorporated in the connection to the evacuating pump so that the latter may be disconnected between evacuating operations. The valve envelope is closed by a plate 5, Figs. 1 and 2, which makes a tight joint therewith by a washer 13 coated with grease, and which supports the grid 6 and the filament whose leads 9, 10 pass through glass tubes 7, 8. The connection to the evacuating pump is made by way of a casing 18 which has a flanged extension 19 adapted to abut against a flanged extension on the pump and be secured thereto to form a tight joint. The casing communicates with the interior of the valve by a pipe 15 and contains a ballvalve 17 seating on soft non - oxidizable metal such as gold, operated from the outside bv a screw 20, a bellows 21 being provided to allow movement of the screw rod. After evacuation, the device is disconnected from the pump and grease introduced through the extension 19 packed round the valve. Alternatively, the grease may be contained in a vessel enclosed in the casing 18 and tilted when required by a magnet. Specifications 345,224 and 450,275 are referred to.
