413,507. Flexible diaphragm pumps &c. SEMSCH, F., 37A, Friedrichsruherstrasse, Grunewald, Berlin. Aug. 10, 1933, No. 22384. [Classes 8 (i) and 102 (i).] A flexible container is formed of a pair of elastic metal plates joined together at the edges and formed with radial elongated bulges 6 bounded by creases 5. These bulges may constitute the whole of the container, or they may be united by flat plates 3 strengthened by ribs 7 or thickened parts. The vessel may be further strengthed by radial bars 8 hinged together engaging by rollers 10 under flanges 11 in the centre. Pumps made in this way may be operated by electromagnets mounted on one side of the pump. These containers may be used as packing means in valve devices ; thus, Fig. 9 shows an automatic valve of a refrigerating machine regulable by a flanged sleeve R controlled by a screwed ring turning in a ring U. The sleeve is connected to the inner sides of flexible containers B, the outer sides being connected to the inlet conduit C and casing A so that increase in volume of one container is compensated by decrease in that of the other; the valve stem is flanged to engage one end of the spring F. Fig. 11 shows a valve positively actuated by a screwed member W engaging the stem R" which is connected to a pair of flexible containers B. In a modification, a valve stem is connected to one (closed) side of a flexible container and passes through the other side.
