Abstract
487,124. Bottling. EBBEDAL, N. J. O. J. Nov. 2, 1937, No. 30023. Convention date, Nov. 19, 1936. [Class 125 (ii)] A bottling valve is provided in the opening 1 of the liquid container and the valve casing 2 holds a diaphragm 5 round its outer edge. A vent pipe 3 passes centrally through the casing 2 and has an expanded part 6 upon which the inner edge of the diaphragm is pressed by a spring 7. When the mouth of the bottle is pushed upwards, the diaphragm is lifted from the expanded part 6 so that liquid can flow into the bottle ; the flow is forced along the bottle wall and foaming is avoided. When the bottle is withdrawn the valve closes by the diaphragm 5 engaging the part 6 ; at the same time the valve 12, connected by rods 14 to the diaphragm, closes the vent pipe to prevent drips. In a modification, the diaphragm is resilient and is shaped as shown in Fig. 2 ; it is made preferably of rustless steel covered on its under side with rubber. In another modification, the diaphragm has a central dependent neck which can be introduced into the bottle.
