Abstract

492,530. Momentum apparatus for raising liquids. DICKINSON, R. H., and FLUID TRANSFER, Ltd. March 19, 1937. No. 8163. [Class 102 (ii)] A pumping system comprises an inlet pipe 10 having a valve 13 and connected at 15 to a delivery pipe 14. A cylinder 17 is connected by a pipe 16 to the point 15 and contains a reciprocating piston 18. The piston 18 applies pressure at such a velocity that the water in the pipe 14 separates or tends to separate from that in the pipe 10 and the energy resiliently stored in the inlet side is released between applications of pressure and transfers liquid to the delivery pipe 14 and permits a flow through the valve 13. A resilient device 19 may be connected to the pipe 10, or the resiliency of the pipe itself may be used, or in some cases the pipe may be lined with resilient material. In a modification, a spring-loaded piston co-operates with the piston 18. Fig. 4 shows a system in which Liquid. can be pumped in either direction between the tanks 27, 28. A pipe 29 is connected to the cylinder 30 and has inlet valves 31 and stop valves 32 at each end., Whichever valve 32 is open, liquid is delivered through it.
