Abstract

531,697. Liquid raising apparatus. ROBINSON, E. M. B. July 18, 1939, No. 20828. [Class 102 (ii)] Water or other liquid is elevated through a pipe 2 by applying suction to a closed chamber 7, and forcing air through a pipe 6 into the pipe 2, the air being separated in the chamber 7 from the water which flows out at 9. Intermittent suction is applied to the chamber 7 and the air withdrawn is re-delivered to the pipe 6 by a piston 13, reciprocated in a cylinder 12, non- return valves being provided at 8, 9, 11, and 14 to prevent flow in the reverse directions. A non-return valve may be arranged at 15 to prevent water from entering the pipe 6. When abrasive, corrosive or like liquid is pumped the valves 8, 9 and 15 may be omitted, the inertia of the liquid preventing reverse flow.
