Abstract

531,696. Reciprocating pumps. ROBINSON, E. M. B. July 17, 1939, No. 20715. [Classes 102 (i) and 102 (ii)] A reciprocating suction pump for water or other liquids has an air inlet 13 in its suction pipe 7 so that this may be longer than is possible without air. The amount of air admitted is regulated by the nearness of the inlet 13 to the surface 9 of the water but a valve 14 may also be used. The pump comprises a cylinder 2 and piston 3 having its rod 4 enclosed in a fluid-tight bellows 15. The lower end of the cylinder is connected to the suction pipe 7 and an outlet pipe 5 through non-return valves 10, 6. A cylinder 17 is similarly connected to suction and outlet pipes 7, 20 and the upper ends of the cylinders are connected by a pipe 16. Non- return head-valves 23 and a lower inlet valve 11 may also be fitted.
