Abstract

182,154. Vickers, Ltd., and Pool, W. Jan. 28, 1921. Two barrels in series.-In a pumping device comprising two pumps in series, the surplus fluid from the first pump A, which has the greaterdelivery, is bye-passed to the inlet through a valve D controlled by the delivery pressure of the two pumps. The valve D is connected to a diaphragm which is subjected on the upper side to the delivery pressure of the first pump A by means of a branch conduit C, and on the lower side to the delivery pressure of the second pump B. When the pressure on the delivery side of pump B rises, the valve opening varies and the pressure on the delivery side of the pump A, which is the inlet side of pump B, increases till the two delivery pressures are equal, whereupon the valve D opens and surplus fluid again flows back to the inlet side of the first pump A. This arrangement gives a constant delivery without slip or leakage against a variable resistance.
