Abstract

Relief devices; regulating delivery by byepasses; regulating delivery of two combined pumps.-In pumping apparatus for viscous &c. liquids of the kind described in Specification 182,154, the bye-pass between the two pumps 1, 2 is controlled by a piston pressure balance valve 14, 15, the upper side of which is exposed to the delivery pressure of the pilot pump 1 through the ports 7, 21, while the under side is exposed to the delivery pressure of the measuring pump 2 through the port 11. The excess liquid from the pump 1 returns to the inlet side 4 through the port 7, holes 16 and slots 17 in the valve, and a channel 18 in the cylinder wall controlled by the valve. If the excessive pressure occurs on the delivery side of the pump 2, the piston 14 is raised sufficiently to connect the space 12 on the the delivery side of the measuring pump with the ports 21 so that the delivery from the pump 2 returns through the channel 18 to the inlet side of the pump 1. If an excessive pressure occurs on the upper side of the piston 14, the valve 15 is moved down until the upper edge clears the channel 18 and allows the liquids from the pump 1 to return freely to the inlet pipe 4. In another form excess out of balance pressure is released by an auxiliary device of the kind described in Specification 234,156.
