Abstract

[Class 110 (ii).] A rotary pump P is provided with a spring- loaded byepass valve d the position of which varies according to the delivery pressure of the pump to vary the quantity of fluid byepassed from the delivery side a to the suction side b. It is stated that the sum of the quantities of fluid passing through the byepass i and that due to slip loss Sp is constant over the delivery pressure range. Increase in pressure of the delivery fluid forces down the piston d. The spring k can be adjusted for position by a screw l. The pump P may be other than rotary. Under an excessive pressure the top of piston a again uncovers the byepass i, and thus acts as a safety valve, or a second byepass may be provided. For reversible appliances the arrangement is duplicated.
