Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Classes 110 (i) and 110 (ii).] In pumps, compressors, &c. the delivery pressure is regulated by means of a diaphragm 4 or other movable member exposed on one side to the delivery pressure in the pipe 1, and adapted when moved to hold the suction valve 6 open. As applied to rotary and centrifugal pumps, a valve is arranged in a byepass pipe connecting the suction and delivery sides of the pump, and is opened as above described. The invention may be applied to hydraulic presses, and several suction valves may be arranged to be opened successively to give a gradually decreasing output. Instead of a non-return valve, a cock or slide valve may be gradually opened to give a gradually decreasing output.
