Abstract

519,290. Pressure control of variable delivery pumps. VICKERS, Inc. Oct. 14, 1938, No. 29758. Convention date, Nov. 5, 1937. [Class 102 (i)] A pressure control unit for a variable delivery pump 1 comprises a cylinder' 6 containing a slidable spring-pressed piston 7 which is connected to the volume control part 3 of the pump, pressure connections 17, 18, 19, 21 and 22 between the pump and the housing, and a spring-controlled check valve 16 and a restricted passageway 20 in said pressure connections located between the pump and an outlet connection thereof. The housing 6 is formed with two cylinder portions 9, 9a to receive the piston 7 which has a central enlarged spool 10 and is hollow to accommodate a relatively light spring 12. The cylinder 13 of valve 16 is connected to an outlet by means of a passageway 23 and the bore of the piston 7. If the pump pressure exceeds the setting of the valve 16, the port 15 is opened and the pressure to the' lift of the spool 10 will exhaust at a faster rate than it can be supplied through the restriction 20. The pressure to the right of the spool 10 overcomes the spring 12 and the piston 7 is moved to the left to decrease the angle beween the part 3 and the'pump 1, and so reduce its output. In a modification, the check valve is located in the connection between the pump and the cylinder housing, and the restriction is located beween the cylinder housing and the outlet connection.
