Abstract
197,491. Ogden, J. E. L. March 31, 1922. Combined fluid-actuated and mechanical gears. -The piston, b may be actuated by pressure fluid controlled by a cylindrical slide valve m which is moved in one direction by a piston e attached to the piston b and in the other direction by pressure fluid. During the suction stroke, the steam, &c. passes from a pipe p through an annulus r into the space q and lifts a piston k coupled to the piston b. At the end of this stroke, the piston e lifts the valve m, so that steam, &c. enters the valve through a port s and effects the delivery stroke by acting on the upper face of the piston e. During this stroke the steam, &c. passes from the space q into the space above the piston e. At the end of the downstroke, a port t is uncovered by the piston k to exhaust the space u in the valve casing, and a port v is uncovered by the piston e to allow the steam to pass through a passage w to the upper end of the valve and depress it. The steam above the piston e then escapes to exhaust ports n and passage o.
