486,192. Rotary engines. COMPAGNIE POUR LA FABRICATION DES COMPTEURS ET MATERIEL D'USINES A GAZ. Nov. 25, 1937, Nos. 32537, 32538, and 32539. Convention dates, Nov. 26, 1936, Dec. 23, 1936, and Jan. 25, 1937. [Class 110 (ii)] In an engine or pump, the piston has one end which is given a rotary motion by means of a crank, causing the piston as a whole to gyrate. Means are provided to secure fluid tightness by mechanism actuated by the crank to give a radially outward force to the piston where it bears against the bore of the working chamber. One form of the invention includes a piston formed of two semicircles joined to form an S-shape. Figs. 2, 3 show a piston 9 which tapers axially in a similar shaped casing. Recesses 14 are connected by passages 15 to the outside atmosphere or to a chamber under pressure higher than that existing in the working chamber. To secure fluid tightness between a piston and its chamber, centrifugal action on a weight acts through rods, or other connecting mechanism to give an outward force component causing the piston to press against the casing bore.
