Abstract

963,474. Discharge lamps. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 25, 1960 [Aug. 20, 1959], No. 28528/59. Heading H1D. A metal, particularly sodium, vapour discharge lamp has a lead-in conductor 3, forming a support for an electrode 2, passing through a punch seal 4, and an exhaust tube 7 sealed into the pinch extending into the envelope 1 and so extended and bent at 8 as to have directed away from the electrode vaporizable metal introduced into the envelope through the exhaust tube. The filling can also include a gas or mixture of gases. The pinch seal 4 is formed at one end of a flared stem 5, the other end 6 of which is peripherally sealed to the end of the envelope. The electrode 2 is located at least partially within the stem 5 in order to prevent the formation of a cool region between the electrode and the pinch 4.
