Abstract
430,437. Discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, FRANCIS, V. J., and RYDE, J. W., c/o General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. Jan. 8, 1934, No. 672. [Class 39 (i)] A high-pressure vapour discharge tube is provided with a metal layer covering an irregularity of the envelope at which condensation of the vapour would be liable to occur in the absence of the said layer. For example, a sealing-off pip may be coated with aluminium paint or " liquid platinum." The form or position of the metal layer may be adjusted during manufacture so that the portion of the tube which it covers is the coolest part of the tube during operation and has the temperature necessary to maintain a desired pressure or composition of the filling, such as a mixture of mercury and cadmium. Additional heatequalizing shields, not continuous with the metal layer, may be provided in the neighbourhood of the electrodes, as in Specification 410,648. Specification 372,154 also is referred to.
