Abstract

194,595. Frost, S. G. May 19, 1922. Vacuum tubes. - A fusible element is connected inside the bulb of a thermionic valve or vacuum tube between one or more electrodes or an internal member and an external circuit so that the electrodes or other part may be heated by passage of current during exhaustion of the bulb, the fuse being afterwards ,blown by increasing the current. The internal member may be a metallic or other support, or an insulator associated with a conductor. The fuse 6 may be connected by spot-welding or pinching between an anode 2 and a grid 1 each of which has a single lead 4, 3 respectively; or the fuse may be connected between a separate conductor and an electrode. The filament may be mounted on a grooved insulating sleeve 8 on a cross-wire 9 - secured to the grid which maintains the filament in tension, the sleeve, being heated during exhaustion by current passed through the grid.
