Abstract

232,159. Huth Ges., Dr. E. F. April 11, 1924, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-In a thermionic valve in which the control electrode is not arranged between the filament and anode, the surface of the control electrode is reduced at the part to which electrons pass from the filament and the total surface of the electrode is made larger than that of the anode. The control electrode may be in the form of a grid or of a plate with one or more slits extending wholly or partly through it. As shown, the filament 1 is mounted in a slit between two parts 3<a>, 3<b> of the control electrode, which are connected together electrically, and have a combined surface greater than that of the anode 2; the filament may be mounted slightly nearer to the anode than as shown. Curves are given to show the relation between the distance of the filament from the anode and (1) the " grid permeability," and (2) the ratio of the steepness of the characteristic to the " grid permeability." With an anode voltage of 40 to 50, a positive potential of 2 to 3 volts must be applied to the control electrode before current passes to it.
