Thermionic amplifiers. - An amplifier has a filament cathode k, a control grid g, and two anodes a<1>, a<2> which are connected together through a resistance W, so that the anode a<1> is maintained at a higher potential than the anode a<2>. A number of control grids and anodes may be used. The anode a<1> may be of grid formation, or perforated, or may consist of a single wire. The anodes may be arranged one beside, or one within the other. It is stated that the characteristic curves of anode-filament current with varying grid potential are close together for different potentials on the anode a<2>, as shown in Fig. 4. The potential ea applied to the anode a<1> may be varied by means of a potentiometer.
