Abstract
166,218. Nixon, A. May 10, 1919. Plastic compositions containing india-rubber &c. and chalk, clay, &c.-A mixture of ingredients for use as a filler for caoutchouc and caoutchouclike substances consists of French chalk, china clay, iron oxide, and magnesium carbonate, with or without zinc oxide. The chalk and clay may each comprise 36 per cent of the total, the iron oxide 8 per cent, and the magnesium carbonate 12 per cent. The mixture may be calcined; in this event, there may be added to the mixture before calcination sufficient zinc white or zinc sulphide white to provide the desired proportion of zinc oxide in the mixture. Alternatively the mixture may be bleached, for example, by treating it with sulphuric acid and then washing out the acid; the zinc oxide is added before or after bleaching.
