Abstract

173,072. Lessing, R. Sept. 23, 1920. Wet-separating; washing.-The breaking-up or crushing of coal is facilitated by treating it with an acid agent. The coal may be treated by immersing the coal in acid water. The coal may be charged into a tower or hopper up which acid gases are passed while water is allowed to trickle down the coal; or the water may be washed with acidified water. With a bituminous coal, an acid agent of the order of 0.1 per cent of sulphur dioxide or its equivalent may be used.
