Abstract

As a substitute for stearic acid, there is incorporated into a usual rubber mix the liquid or acid portion with or without the solid or asphaltic portion of an oxidation product of a solid or liquid paraffin hydrocarbon such as paraffin wax. This material acts as an activator of accelerators of vulcanization and also as a softener. A suitable process for oxidizing the paraffin hydrocarbon is described in Specification 287,514, [Class 140, Waterproof &c. fabrics]. Examples are given showing the effect of the above products when added to a rubber mix.
