Indiarubber, rendering luminous.-Soft rubber articles are coated with a solution of rubber, preferably after treatment with petrol or other solvent. and to the surface thus produced, which may be allowed to dry is then applied a paste made by rubbing down a self-luminous material such as phosporescent boron compounds in a rubber solution as nearly colourless as possible. The article may be heated, but the temperature must be below that at which the luminous material is affected. The first coat of solution may be omitted when the article has been treated with petrol. Articles of hard rubber such as electric switches may be rendered self luminous by the attachment of a sheet of soft rubber treated by the process.
