Abstract

301,367. Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., McKay, R. F., and Chapman, W. H. July 25, 1927. Depositing rubber from aqueous dipersions.- Rubber &c. sheet or coated or impregnated fabrics are manufactured from a dispersion by obtaining a creamy deposit electrophoretically on a drum &c. partially drying if desired, and removing the deposit by bringing a continuous surface into contact with it. The continuous surface may be a smooth impervious band from which the rubber is stripped after complete drying, or may be a band of fabric which is to receive a dressing of rubber on one or both surfaces. If the fabric is to be impregnated, it is pressed into contact with the depositing drum by a roller revolving at the same speed as or at a different speed from that of the depositing drum. The process may be repeated on the other side of the fabric. The dispersion from which the cream is obtained preferably includes a protective colloid and may be compounded and vulcanized.
