Abstract

Compound fabrics; proofing permeable materials.-Sheets of india-rubber, treated with a tanning agent to produce a material similar to leather, are covered on one or both sides with a layer of canvas, flannel &c. which may be attached by a solution of the tanned rubber in naphtha. Wire, textile &c. reinforcements may also be inserted. The material may be rendered fireproof by soaking it in a solution of protochloride of tin, and made tougher and porous by treatment with an alum solution.
