Abstract
Dialdehydes are used as hardening agents for gelatine, the hardening process being carried out either by adding a dialdehyde to a solution of the gelatine, or by bathing the shaped and dried gelatine body in a solution of the dialdehyde. Both monomeric and polymeric dialdehydes may be used, examples being glyoxal, paraglyoxal, and mesoxydialdehyde. The invention is applicable to the treatment of photographic gelatine emulsions containing silver halide. Examples are given. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use of dialdehydes for hardening albuminous substances in general. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Dialdehydes are used as hardening agents for gelatine, the p hardening process being carried out either by adding a dialdehyde to a solution of the gelatine, or by bathing the shaped and dried gelatine body in a solution of the dialdehyde. Both monomeric and polymeric dialdehydes may be used, examples being glyoxal, paraglyoxal, and mesoxydialdehyde. The invention is applicable to the treatment of photographic gelatine emulsions containing silver halide.
