Abstract
307,987. Peace, G., and British India Corporation, Ltd. Dec. 21, 1927. Treatment preliminary to tanning; vegetable tanning.-In preparing hides for rapid vegetable tanning the hides after liming are completely delimed by pickling and are then depickled, the depickled hides after washing if necessary being from wool fat. The material may be that obtained by the process described in Specification 307,776, [Class 81 (i), Disinfecting &c.]. It is applied to the leather by drumming or rubbing-in on the table. left with a degree of acidity of between pH 3.5 and pH 5.0. The pickling solution may consist of a solution of salt and sulphuric acid and the depickling solution of a sodium salt of a weak acid, such as sodium thiosulphate. A suitable tanning liquor may be prepared from a mixture of Babul bark 9 parts, myrobalons 1 part, and wattle bark 1.5 parts.
