Abstract

264,302. Sheard, L. Dec. 23, 1925. Treatment preliminary to tanning.-In a process for deliming or bating hides &c. the hides are drummed with crystals of a sulphite, preferably sodium sulphite, without the additon of water, and after ths treatment has been continued for some time dilute sulphuric acid is added in portions so as to decompose the sulpnne without causing the evolution of sulphur dioxide. The sulphuric acid may conveniently be passed into the drum through a hollow spindle.
