Treatment preliminary to tanning.-Lime is removed from unhaired hides and skins by treatment with a weak acid bath containing a. very small proportion of nitro-benzene, e.g. a bath containing one part of acetic acid in two thousand parts of water, the pure acid containing one part per thousand of nitro benzene.
