Abstract

198,288. Robinson, J. L. Oct. 26, 1922. Chrome tanning; plumping after tanning. - Chrome-tanned leather in the state in which it would ordinarily be placed on the market is plumped by treatment with an aqueous solution of formaldehyde. Preferably a solution maintained so that fifteen parts of formaldehyde are present in one hundred parts of water is allowed to act upon the leather for about seven hours at a temperature of 70‹ F., after which the leather is dried for forty-eight hours at a temperature of 70‹ F.
