243,090. Pickard, R. H., Lloyd, D. Jordan-, and Caunce, A. E. Aug. 27, 1924. Treatment preliminary to tanning.-The prepared pelt, hide, or skin, whilst still wet, is steeped at once in a bath of undiluted acetone. The action is continued until, if dried at a temperature of approximately 57‹ C., the pelt will immediately wet back in water, or until the pelt is in equilibrium with a mixture of acetone and water of specific gravity not greater than 0.81. The acetone is then evaporated from the pelt and the pelt immersed in an aqueous solution of tannin. Specification 7091/11 is referred to.
