Abstract
523,578. Making leather. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. Jan. 6, 1939, No. 539, Convention date, Feb. 1, 1938. [Class 76] Hides are delimed and pickled with a solution of sulphamic acid or ammonium sulphamate. The sulphamic acid produces a soluble calcium salt and causes less swelling than, e.g., hydrochloric acid. When used for both pickling and liming the concentration of acid is higher than when used for deliming only. When ammonium sulphamate is used for deliming sulphamic acid is added after completion of the deliming. The hides may be washed between the deliming and pickling steps.
