Abstract

278,398. Gravell, J. H. April 29, 1926. Pickling.-A pickle regulator for pickling baths for metals, particularly iron and steel, comprises the distillate resulting from the distillation of animal or vegetable material such as gelatine, hair, gristle, hides, &c., mixed, if desired, with a, little animal or vegetable fat. The whole distillate may be dissolved in strong sulphuric acid before addition to the acid pickling bath or the water insoluble portion of it either alone or the solution in hydrochloric acid may be added to the bath. The metal after pickling is treated with lime or other alkaline solution to neutralise the acid.
