Preparing for use without tanning.-A rapid process of dressing skins consists in applying a solution containing about 15 per cent sodium carbonate to the flesh side of the skins. This operation is preceded by a preliminary treatment in a 30 per cent quicklime bath and is followed by washing, draining and then drying by means of fine plaster of Paris or sawdust. The skins are then treated on the flesh side by one or two applications of linseed oil and degreased by treatment with plaster of Paris or sawdust for two or three hours.
