241,666. Ross, H. C., Marris, H. C., and Walker &. Sons, Ltd., W. Sept. 1, 1924. Treatment preliminary to tanning.-Hair is removed from hides or skins by the action of a liquor comprising water, sulphur, lime, and ammonia. Finely powdered sulphur and quick lime, or slaked lime, are boiled with water and the mixture allowed to settle. The clear liquor is run off and added to the water in the unhairing pits together with ammonium hydrate. The liquid is maintained at from 10‹ to 45‹ C.
