Abstract
1,145,359. Depilating hides and skins. DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER SCHEIDEANSTALT. March 31, 1966 [April 8, 1965], No.14281/66. Heading C6C. In a process for depilating hides and skins, e.g. cow hides or calf skins, they are treated, e. g. for 15 to 20 hours in a slowly rocking tub, with an acidified, aqueous solution of a chlorite, e. g. a solution containing 300 g. of sodium chlorite per litre, to which solution is added a percompound, and, after hairs and/or bristles have been completely oxidized, a neutral salt, such as ammonium sulphate, or a weakly alkaline salt, such as sodium bicarbonate, is added to the chlorite solution, or applied directly to the oxidized hides or skins, e.g. after the solution has been drained off. The per-compound may be an alkali metal perborate, such as sodium perborate, or hydrogen peroxide, or a hydrogen peroxide addition compound. Twenty-five per cent of an alkali metal perborate, based on the weight of dissolved chlorite may be added to the solution. An organic acid preferably formic or acetic acid, and/or an inorganic acid, e. g. sulphuric or phosphoric acid, may be used to acidify the chlorite solution.
