Abstract

1,125,794. Straightening hair. NISHIZAWA K.K. and I. TAKEDA. 29 Oct., 1965 [27 Jan., 1965], No. 45913/65. Heading D1P. Naturally frizzled or curly hair is straightened by applying thereto in succession (a) a cream comprising 3-8% by weight of mercapto acetic acid adjusted to a pH of 7-8.6 with ammonium hydroxide, and an oil-inwater ointment base, (b) a cream having a pH of 10-12.5 comprising ammonium hydroxide, ethanolamine or ethanolamine carbonate and an oil-in-water ointment base, (c) a composition comprising an oxidising agent, e.g. a bromate or perborate, a buffering agent, e.g. potassium dihydrogen phosphate, and gelatine, and (d) a solution of maleic acid. The hair may be straightened with the aid of a comb. The straightening process may be effected by washing the frizzled hair, applying the cream (a) and leaving for 45-90 minutes, removing excess of the cream (a) with a towel, applying the cream (b) a little at a time until all the hair has been sufficiently straightened, washing with water, applying composition (c), leaving for 15-20 minutes, washing with water, rinsing with the maleic acid solution and if desired again treating with composition (c), leaving for 5-10 minutes, washing with water and drying. The oil-in-water ointment base is an emulsified vitamin containing salve which is miscible both with water and oil.
