Abstract

1426450 Treating hair L'OREAL 3 April 1973 [4 April 1972] 15845/73 Heading D1P A two-compartment pack for use in the oxidation stage of a permanent waving procedure for hair, contains components which on admixture produce a rise in temperature. The first compartment contains a first component comprising at least one sulphite, metabisulphite, bisulphite or thiourea, and the second compartment contains a second component comprising hydrogen peroxide, the contents of the two compartments being such that after mixing the entire contents of the two compartments the rise in temperature is 15-25‹C and the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in the resulting composition (at the end of the oxidation-reduction reaction) is between 0.5 and 3%, preferably between 0.75 and 1.5% by weight. The self-heating compositions resulting from admixture of the first and second components may be applied in a process for permanently waving hair, by treating the hair, after it has been reduced and rinsed while constrained in a deformed state, with the self-heating composition for a period of 1-15 minutes, followed by removing the constraining means and rinsing the hair. The first component may be in solid form. The second component may contain, in addition to hydrogen peroxide, a thickener e.g .carboxymethyl cellulose, hydroxymethyl cellulose or a wax. Citric acid, phenacetin, hydroxyquinoline sulphate, perfume and dyestuff may also be present.
