Abstract
Fur or the separated hair is carroted for felting by means of an aqueous solution of an acid hydrolyzing agent, e.g. hydrochloric and sulphuric acid, an oxidizing agent and a soluble neutral salt of a strong acid and an alkali, alkaline earth metal, or ammonium, the salt being present in amount equal to or greater than the amount of the acid so that on drying the treated fur the salt prevents damage to the fur which might be caused by increasing concentration of the acid. Sodium sulphate is a suitable neutral salt for use in the process and suitable oxidizing agents are hydrogen peroxide, potassium persulphate, chlorate, or perchlorate, and ammonium persulphate. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 345,404. p
