Abstract

Leathers are tanned by a chromium salt phenol/sulphite tanning agent followed by vegetable tanning in a drum without liquor. The vegetable tanning may be started with a known synthetic replacement-tanning agent. Between tanning steps glutaric acid may be added. Specifications 827,430, 845,644 and 858,561 are referred to.
