Abstract

183,922. Frood, H., and Alger, H. P. April 30, 1921. Plastic compositions containing india-rubber and casein.-Caoutchouc and caoutchouc-like substances and compositions containing them are rendered less inflammable bv an admixture of casein and hydrated aluminium oxide, preferably with the addition of a small proportion of antimony trichloride. The casein may be incorporated either as powder or mixed with borax solution to form a plastic mass. Examples of compositions suitable for floor coverings are given, which comprise rubber, fibres, such as cork and shredded cotton, zinc or iron oxide, and sulphur, in addition to the fire-proofing ingredients specified above.
