Abstract

Flame-resistant compositions comprise solid chlorinated naphthalene and chlorinated paraffin wax with or without fillers, pigments, softening agents and the like. Known flame retarders such as hexachlorethane may be incorporated also. An example of the composition contains chlorinated naphthalene (54 per cent Cl2), chlorinated paraffin wax, oleic acid, petroleum jelly, slaked lime, hexachlorethane and china clay. Graphite produces a black material and iron oxide or other pigments can be substituted in part for the china clay of the example.
