Abstract

Plates for building purposes are manufactured from asbestos fibre, lime, and a mineral binding agent. The plates preferably contain a large proportion of lime, which is introduced as such, or in the form of materials which contain it in the free state such as cement waste which has stood for a length of time under water. In an example a plate is made from a composition comprising 25 per cent asbestos, 30-40 per cent lime, and 30-40 per cent active silica. The plates may be manufactured in the same manner as fibro-cement plates in a cardboard-making machine.
