Abstract

A composition suitable for use in heat insulation consists of exfoliated vermiculite and clay, preferably fire clay, and a solution of a binder, such as pitch residues, sodium silicate, or starchy material. Pitch residues are the byeproduct extracted from wood in the manufacture of pulp. Suitable proportions are equal parts by weight of vermiculite and clay, and sufficient of a 15 per cent solution of binder to render the mass plastic.
