Abstract

Moulded products suitable for sound and heat insulating purposes, and for structural materials, ceramic articles &c. are made by mixing chrysotile asbestos fibre with an aqueous solution of one of the acids, sulphuric, hydrochloric, nitric, perchloric, oxalic, or hydrobromic to form a plastic mass which is moulded and dried at temperatures exceeding 100 DEG C. until stability of volume is attained. Fillers such as rock, sand, sawdust, bark, straw, carbonates of lime or magnesia, &c. may be incorporated, if desired. Examples are given.
