Abstract

A dry composition, for forming a wet-lagging insulating composition, comprises a mixture of magnesia, asbestos fibre, a water-soluable cellulose ether (e.g. methyl cellulose in proportion of from 1 to 5% of combined weight of magnesia and asbestos), with or without a compound (e.g. a carbonate, such as MgCO3, Na2CO3 or (NH4)2CO3) giving rise to gas bubbles. The wet-lagging composition may be formed in situ or pre-formed, by moulding prior to securing in place when dry on pipes &c.
