Abstract

515,470. Mould and core materials. WILSON, A. M. April 28, 1938, No. 12767. [Class 83 (i)] A binder for sand cores comprises starch, which has been pregelatinized by heat &c. in known manner, together with glucose, dextrose greens, dextrose, cane sugar, molasses, or other soluble hygroscopic material or linseed, mineral or other oil or both soluble material and oil. The sugar &c. may be added to the starch before heating. A suitable mixture for core making is sand 1,000 parts by weight, linseed oil 10, starch 18, glucose 2, and water 50. Any other known ingredients such as rosin or unmodified starch may also be added. The soluble substance may comprise that found in the water used in steeping maize when making starch. The dry modified starch may be impregnated with oil.
