Abstract
A waterproofing and adhesive composition consists of amorphous petroleum wax, with or without paraffin wax, carrying in the form of a suspended colloid or a gel metal stearates, natural or artificial resins (e.g. coumarone resin, phenol-formaldehyde resins, glycol-phthalic acid resins) or copal gum. A mutual solvent, e.g. rosin, may be added. In examples: (1) a composition consists of 75 per cent of petroleum wax, 24 per cent of ester gum, and 1 per cent of aluminium stearate; (2) a mixture of 75 parts of amorphous petroleum wax and 15 parts of ester gum is rendered fluid by heat, 10 parts of coumarone resin are added, and the mixture is heated at 285 DEG F. until all solids have disappeared. The coumarone resin is in saturated solution, and on cooling separates as a colloidal suspension or forms a gel; (3) coumarone resin is dissolved in ester gum and the solution is added to petroleum wax, a colloidal suspension or gel being formed on cooling. The composition may be used to unite two sheets of paper, the laminated product being used as packing material.ALSO:A waterproofing and adhesive composition consists of amorphous petroleum wax, with or without paraffin wax, carrying in the form of a suspended colloid or a gel metal stearates, natural or artificial resins (e.g. coumarone resin, phenol - formaldehyde resins, glycolphthalic acid resins) or copal gum. A mutual solvent, e.g. rosin, may be added. The amount of paraffin wax present may be four times that of the amorphous petroleum wax. In examples, (1) 1 per cent of aluminium stearate is dissolved in heated amorphous petroleum wax; the solution gelatinizes on cooling; (2) A composition consists of 75 per cent of petroleum wax, 24 per cent of ester gum, and 1 per cent of aluminium stearate. Other compositions consist of amorphous petroleum wax, ester gum and coumarone resin. The composition may be used to unite two sheets of paper, the laminated product being used as packing material.ALSO:A waterproofing and adhesive composition consists of amorphous petroleum wax, with or without paraffin wax, carrying in the form of a suspended colloid or a gel metal stearates, natural or artificial resins (e.g. coumarone resin, phenol-formaldehyde resins, glycolphthalic acid resins) or copal gum.
