Abstract
Fire resistant, waterproof and heat insulating pulp board is made by mixing aluminium hydrate and a colloidal clay such as Bentonite with a suspension of fibres such as wood, paper, bagasse or straw pulp, shaping the mixture into a board and drying. Insoluble crystals such as calcium or barium sulphate may be added. The aluminium hydrate and calcium sulphate are preferably prepared by the double decomposition of aluminium sulphate and calcium hydrate. The pulp may be sized by adding to the beater charge, preferably after incorporating the fireproofing agents, a rosin size, and subsequently precipitating by aluminium sulphate.
